what are the odds that three pedestrians back-to-back would be wearing lime green t-shirts?
i drove past
three pedestrians sporting
lime green t-shirts, floating
down the sidewalk
in my periphery
back-to-back against
an almost-raining sky and i
couldn't help but notice the
lime green lady with silver hair
wearing a fanny pack and glasses
the second one, admittedly,
i don't remember
just a flash of
green!
and the third—how in the world were there three?—
a tall slender man
with shoulders slouched
and little-to-no facial expression at all
and i think of
Frank Ocean's Blonde album, and the lime hair he is donning on it
and the martians i read about in the New York Times’ app this morning
i think of melons and i think of Iris Apfel
and imagine a festival
like Bonnaroo but with elderly people absolutely raging
meanwhile, a song is playing
and the speakers in my car sing
melodies that spill from my windows
into the ears of these biped beings
and i wonder, in that moment, if we all relate—
the lime green angels floating down the sidewalk
and me, in a grey t-shirt i never wear.
